Where the work happens

NBIA carries out its mission through five standing committees. Each focuses on education, awareness, or support, and each is open to members who want to help.

Nevada Brain Injury Habilitation 1915(i)
  • Sustainability & Access: We are dedicated to ensuring the long-term stability and support of the Nevada Brain Injury Habilitation 1915(i) State Plan.

  • Habilitation Focus: Our priority is to protect the essential services that allow survivors to live with dignity and independence in their own homes and communities.

  • Quality Standards: We promote state-level standards that prioritize "Ability over Disability," ensuring 1915(i) providers can deliver high-quality, ethical care in a stable environment.

Brain Injury Education, Resources, Support, and Awareness
  • Survivor & Family Education: We collaborate to provide specialized educational tools designed for individuals living with brain injuries and their family caregivers to help navigate the recovery journey.

  • The Network Online Hub: We serve as a centralized resource for families to exchange lived-experience insights, medical data, and local service information.

  • Support & Awareness: We foster community support networks that reduce isolation and raise public awareness of the unique challenges faced by Nevada’s survivor community.

  • Prevention Philosophy: We champion community-wide safety campaigns focused on fall prevention, concussion prevention and helmet use.

Brain Injury Advocacy and Legislative Changes
  • Expert Insight in Carson City: We strive for an active presence in Nevada’s legislative, judicial, and executive branches to provide expert data and insight on the unique needs of the brain injury community.

  • Collaborative Policy: We offer a platform for professionals and community members to contribute to a stable healthcare environment that benefits survivors, providers of services, and payor sources.

  • Access to High-Quality, Ethical Care: We strive to bridge the gaps in the continuum of care to ensure all Nevadans receive evident-based, patient-centered care at the right level in the right place at the right time.

  • Systemic Re-entry: Our advocacy includes supporting survivors as they transition back into the workforce with fair protections and specialized coaching.

Nevada Medicaid Brain Injury Rehabilitation Coverage Changes
  • Coverage Alignment: We collaborate with stakeholders to ensure Nevada Medicaid pathways are optimized for specialized neurorehabilitation in a way that helps survivors, providers and payor sources, collaboratively.

  • Continuum of Care: Our goal is to ensure that state-funded insurance provides the comprehensive, evidence-based therapeutic support required for long-term recovery and independence. We believe in accountability of outcomes and results which should be the driver of approved services.

  • Professional Partnership: We partner with survivors, families, payers and providers to create a stable healthcare landscape that encourages the delivery of high-standard, evidence-based specialized services for persons with brain injuries.

Grants and Funding for Brain Injury Rehabilitation
  • Resource Development: We identify and support the pursuit of diversified funding streams, including state grants and federal allocations, to bolster Nevada’s brain injury infrastructure.

  • Innovation Funding: We advocate for resources that support innovative "Real World" coaching and care models, helping local organizations expand their reach.

  • Workforce Education: We seek funding and partnerships to provide accredited, specialized education for Nevada’s healthcare workforce.
